I was having a conversation with my South African friend Johann a few days ago and he was telling me that his main intention for 2012 is to “take my relationships to the next level?” When I asked him to be a bit more specific, all he could say was, “You know Gabriel, deeper, better, more meaningful.” I still wasn’t satisfied.
As a love coach I believe that the more specific we are when we’re setting up goals and intentions, the greater the possibilities these will become reality. So, after much pondering on thissubject two more cups of coffee, I decided to ask Johann these 7 Powerful Questions that I believe will also help you get clear about what it is you want to experience in 2012 in the area of love and relationships:
1: What went really well in my relationships the last year? Even if you didn’t achieve everything in the area of your relationships you wish you had, there were probably some highlights. Did you make any new friends? Found new ways to connect with people? Felt more confident? List those.
2: Why did it go well? - Rarely do people think about WHY good things happened. Be sure to examine this. What exactly was it you did? Were you more available, less judgmental, more joyful? Then ask…
3: How can you do more of it? - Let’s amplify your successes. List a few ideas that will help you be more loving, more open, more available, engaged.
4: What could have gone better? - Don’t spend a lot of time on this, but find your top 3 areas where there’s room for improvement. Perhaps you can become a better listener, or simply be more fully present in your heart?
5: What will you do differently in you relationships this year? – What are you going to stop doing completely, or get better at in 2012? Perhaps something as simple as not taking anything personally can make a huge difference!
6: What would make 2012 a total 10 in my relationships? – a total 10 for results AND a total 10 for fun and enjoyment (gotta enjoy the ride, right!). Dare to dream big!
7: What could make achieving a total 10 year faster and easier? – What would short cut the achievement curve so you get to the good stuff even faster? Maybe hiring a love coach, taking a specific course or training, joining a group or simply making some great connection?
With all these questions answered you’ll be in a more empowered and clear space to truly take your relationships to the next level in 2012!
