When I was a boy, my mother would often fill her bathtub with warm soapy water and let me play with my toys for hours on end. Since our main bathroom only had a shower and the options were limited, this simple ritual always made me feel that I was very special to her.
Giving wings to fly to those we love means that we give them the time, space, and freedom to be themselves. It means we let go of the need to control them and start embracing them how they are and not how we would like them to be.
Giving our loved one’s roots to come back to means showing them that our heart is a safe “home” they can always turn to when they are feeling vulnerable, scared and confused. This requires a heart filled with compassion, understanding, and love.
When we give others the freedom to be themselves and show up as the kind of person they feel safe to be around, our hearts become a warm bathtub they will keep coming back to over and over again. One way to do this is by living from the 12 Virtues of the Heart.
We don’t need to find more people to love or ways to get others to love us. We need to give those we already love more good reasons to stay.
