With 2014 being a year of great new opportunities for expansion and growth, you might be finding it difficult to make ‘The Right Choice’. As a result, you run the risk of either being paralyzed by fear or being pressured into making the wrong decision.
How do you then make these decisions, knowing that it is the ‘right’ decision for you?
In today’s video, I share a very simple, but powerful process that will help you make all your important decisions during 2014.
If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there.
In Alice of Wonderland, there’s a scene where Alice is lost and she asks the Cheshire Cat, “Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?” The cat replies, “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.” Alice then tell him, “I don’t much care where…”, to which the cat simply replies, “Then it doesn’t matter which way you go”.
What the story is really telling us is that if you don’t know where you are going in 2014, then it really doesn’t matter what decisions you make. The problem with that, is that by not making decisions, you’re literally letting others decide for you (your parents, spouse, family, boss, government, etc.)
How do you change this? How do you take back the reins of your life and make powerful decisions in 2014?
Step #1: Choose your Direction by Setting and intention or Theme for 2014
The first step is to set a course or direction by setting an intention for 2014. You do this, by asking yourself, “what do I want this year to be about?” In what area of my life do I want to grow most? I like to do this is by creating a theme for the year. For example, you can decide that your focus on 2014, or theme will be Creativity, Abundance, or Love.
Step #2: Find out if your Decision is in Alignment with your Intention
The second step is discover which decision or choice is in greater alignment with your intention for 2014. You do this by asking yourself if this decision (project, idea, new relationship, new business opportunity, job, etc.) allows you to express/experience/have/move towards what you want your year to be about? In other words, by making this choice, are you moving in the direction you’re wanting to go?
If the answer is yes, and if it feels right to you, makes sense, and scares you a bit, then you know this decision is more likely to come from a deeper place within you, and therefore closer to your heart.
My Own Experience
In 2013 my theme was The Year of Living Shamelessly, and so I chose projects, and opportunities that allowed me to release a lot of my shame, specially around money and sexuality. For example, I gave myself permission to share more authentically with my close friends and clients about areas of my life where I still had shame, and guilt. I even wrote about my struggle with pornography, and took on a ’21-Day Personal Shameless Challenge’.
For 2014 my new theme is Authentically ME. So I’m going to be choosing projects that will allow me to show up fully, and authentically as Gabriel. I’m no longer interested in pleasing others by denying aspects of myself that are important part of my self-expression. So, the question I’ll be asking myself when making decisions is, “will this project, event, opportunity, new relationship, allow me to express myself authentically as ME?”
One Last Thought…
In the big scheme of things, please remember that there’s ultimately not such thing as a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ decision. We live in a friendly, loving Universe in which every experience is always for our growth. So ultimately, even what appears to be a ‘wrong’ decision today, will help you learn more about yourself while helping you get clearer about what it is you truly want or desire. So, stay open, and be willing to make mistakes and fail, because there’s no greater teacher than failure.
