According to the BBC, the 13th-century poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic Rumi is the highest-selling poet in the United States. Across time, distance, and culture, Rumi’s poems articulate what it means to love, live, and feel from the depth of your heart.
If there’s a timeless message Rumi has for aspiring entrepreneurs, leaders, or anyone who chooses to follow the Path of the Heart, it is the following:
Load the ship and set out. No one knows for certain whether the vessel will sink or reach the harbour. Cautious people say, “I’ll do nothing until I can be sure.” Merchants know better. If you do nothing, you lose. Don’t be one of those who won’t risk the ocean.”
Whatever it is your heart truly desires, simply be bold, courageous, and start taking action. Even if it’s just a baby step. Please don’t make the most common mistake most people make of waiting until you’re 100% ready, or until you can be fully certain or sure that this is what you want.
For it is while walking the Path that…
You begin to be guided. Just like your car’s GPS won’t start giving you directions until you start moving, it is only while walking your path that you begin to be guided.
You summon all the help and support you’ll need. Those new friends, partners, and supporters you’re destined to meet along the way will only come to you once you start walking.
You’ll face the challenges that will heal you, make you grow and transform. With every obstacle you face and overcome, you’ll become a more loving, wise and powerful version of yourself.
In my experience, you’re never truly ready to do something until you’re actually doing whatever it is you want to do. If you wait until you’re 100% ready, you might just miss the open door that’s right in front of you.
Whatever that idea is that you’ve been waiting to take action on, simply go for it. Follow its impulse, get on the boat and see what’s waiting for you on the other side of the ocean. If you do nothing you lose.
Jump in the water. What are you waiting for? Can you love yourself this much?
The sooner you get started, the sooner you’ll get there!
